MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19)- A 19-year-old man who is facing charges in a fatal crash appeared in court on Monday morning.
Bond for Alex Powers, of Camden, Ohio, was set at $220,000 and a public defender was appointed. A preliminary hearing was set for July 8.
Police say Powers was impaired when he ran a red light and slammed into a car in Middletown on Friday afternoon, just one hour after causing another wreck nearby. Powers told investigators he had been huffing and didn't remember the crashes.
Powers was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound on Towne Boulevard. He was speeding and ran a red light at the intersection of Pendleton Circle near Towne Mall, hitting a 2002 Grand Am.
The male driver of the Grand Am was killed in the crash. A female passenger was flown to Miami Valley Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Like Powers, both victims were also from Camden. Their names have not yet been released.
