Hamilton park renamed to honor longtime police officer

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- A local park was renamed in honor of a retiring officer with almost 50 years of service under his belt.

Powerhouse Park in Hamilton was renamed to 'Officer Bob Gentry Park' during a ceremony held Friday.

For almost fifty years, Officer Bob Gentry served the citizens of Hamilton as an police officer, and
upon his retirement, as a school resource officer.

Officials say during those years, he
was the driving force for many youth related programs.  Many said that
most dear to his heart was the Safety Town program, where children were taught
to be safe in many areas of childhood activities.

In fact, the ceremony to rename the park coincided with the graduation of the last of five weeks of Safety Town classes for 2013.

Representatives from the City of Hamilton Parks and Recreation Commission, Hamilton City Council and the Police Department were all in attendance to honor Gentry.
